New Subaru Crosstrek in Yakima, WA

The Subaru Crosstrek is Not Your Average Crossover

Unlike other crossovers in its class, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is standard on all Subaru Crosstrek trims for maximum grip on slippery surfaces. In addition, the Crosstrek is powered by a flat-four, or horizontally opposed (H4) engine, which has its share of advantages over traditional inline four-cylinder ones (such as minimized vibration and a lower center of gravity). However, the Crosstrek offers so much more, which should justify why you must buy or lease one. The Crosstrek is split into the Base, Premium, Sport, and Limited trim levels.

Performance Features

Subaru recently introduced a 2.5-liter H4 on the Premium trim level and higher for an output of 182 horsepower. That's 30 more horses than the 2.0-liter H4, which used to be standard across all trim levels-and is now relegated to just the base model. So, go for the 2.5-liter for better acceleration around Yakima, WA. Notably, the 2.0-liter is hitched to a six-speed manual transmission for absolute control of gear shifting, while the 2.5-liter is pinned to a continuously variable transmission for more convenient operation.

The Crosstrek peaks at 28 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. For a standard all-wheel-drive vehicle, that's rather remarkable. In addition to all-wheel drive for optimal performance on slippery surfaces, the vehicle gets 8.7 inches of ground clearance for undercarriage protection when trail driving.

New Subaru Crosstrek Premium

For a subcompact crossover like the Subaru Crosstrek, it delivers a relatively vast amount of space. With two rows of cloth-trimmed seats to hold up to five people, passenger volume is measured at 100.9 cubic feet. Behind the rear seats is 20.8 cubic feet of space for cargo. If you fold down the rear seats, you can maximize cargo space at 55.3 cubic feet.

The Premium model gains front-seat heating, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and orange contrast stitching. As the racing-style model, the Sport trim gets exclusive water-repellant urethane upholstery with yellow contrast stitching and accent trim. Unique to the Limited are leather seat trim and driver-side six-way power adjustability for added luxury around Union Gap.

Starlink, which is represented by a 6.5-inch touchscreen interface, combines the Subaru Crosstrek's infotainment features. These include a four-speaker AM/FM stereo system, Bluetooth hands-free phone calling, a USB port and an audio jack for hooking up mobile devices, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration around Ellensburg.

The Crosstrek's infotainment features are upgraded at the Premium trim level with two additional speakers, a single-disc CD player, a trial subscription to SiriusXM Radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a second USB port for charging mobile devices. The Sport model gains proximity keyless entry with push-button engine start for easier access and engine starting, as well as a pair of rear charging-only USB ports. The top-level Limited gets an eight-inch touchscreen (in place of the 6.5-inch) and gains an HD Radio receiver.

At the base level, the Subaru Crosstrek gets a rearview camera for driver assistance, with seven airbags-a driver's knee airbag, two frontal impact airbags, two side impact airbags, and two side curtain airbags-for restraint and cushioning when there's a crash around Toppenish.

Driver assistance is greatly enhanced at the Sport trim level, which has the EyeSight suite of technologies that include adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist, as well as high beam assist. Reverse automatic braking and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert are added on the Limited.
